Canadian parties expressed sympathies, notably the Progressive Conservative Party in power at the time.
And the late Jack Layton, leader of Canada’s New Democrats, who wrote: The NDP believes deeply that free and fair elections are necessary for freedom and fairness for the populace of any country, including Iraq. And, accurate census-taking is often key to delivering a variety of social and humanitarian benefits.
